ABC News: Connecticut Educator Hooked on Metrics

There was a time in the 1970's when president Carter was pushing us towards metric. But hey, he was only a nuclear (noo-clee-arr) enginner in the Navy, so what does he know. In southern California and Arizona most road signs are English/metric (and sometimes only metric).
There are lots of good reasons to "go metric" but my favorite one is, most students don't know the English system either (how many feet in a mile? ounces in a gallon? feet in a freakin' yard? ) so if they're going to learn a system, it might as well be metric.
